For over 20 years…

Stage One has brought high-quality theatre education and entertainment to the greater Richmond, Indiana region. We work with hundreds of young theatre artists each year to put on public and school day performances, all at no cost to the performers and technicians. Our graduates have gone on to study theatre at schools like New York University, the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, Ball State University, University of Miami, Anderson University, and more!

Stage One and the Richmond Civic Theatre as a whole gave me a home outside of home. The family that I created here became a support system that I use even 1,000 miles away. Being a part of RCT and especially the Stage One family has shaped me into the person I am today, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

What can I possibly say about the place that gave my child her voice? 8 years of creativity, acceptance, support and unconditional love has made her who she is today. I am grateful that all 3 of my children were able to experience this love through Stage One. Through the theatre, they met their best friends who turned into family. The Richmond community is SO LUCKY to have Stage One. Most communities do not have access to youth theatre of this caliber, and definitely not for free. I hope that all children who are searching for their place in the world are lucky enough to find Stage One. I will never be able to fully articulate what Stage One has meant to our family.

I am so grateful that we have the opportunity to show our students these productions, many of which would not otherwise have the chance! I love making the connections to literature especially. The talent of our youth in this community is inspiring, and I am so glad to share it.

The (Almost) Totally True Story of Hansel and Gretel

Sept. 15-17, 22-24 2023

Pity poor Streptococcus – it should be a piece of cake for a fairy godmother to tell the story of Snow White but her wand is bent and things aren’t going quite as they should. Then, to make things worse, she’s interrupted by a couple of English policemen who are hot on the trail of two very devious and dangerous criminals – children who are causing no end of trouble in the forest. Their names? Hansel and Gretel!

Seussical the Musical, Jr.

Mar. 1-3, 8-10, 2024

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
